CUSTOM DECAL DESIGN PHOTO INSTRUCTIONS

Custom decals require quite a few photos to get the process started. These photos need to show all sides of the desired vehicle, close-ups of details like badges, patches, license plates, seals or other logos or insignia.

All photos need to be taken in good lighting, as straight-on and level as possible and at the proper perspective. Get on an even level with the vehicle, you may have to crouch. This will allow us to get a better idea and image to work from to know how the real decals fit on the real vehicle. Digital images of badges, patches and logos that appear on the vehicle also come in handy.

Cars are horizontal... please take your pictures in horizontal to maximize quality and pixels in an image. Do not take a vertical image of a horizontal vehicle. Instead of using all pixels of your camera to fill the image with the vehicle, you shrink it to only use a small portion of your camera's sensor with cuts the quality and detail in half.
Lack of proper photos can result in a custom design request being denied.

Good Photo

This photo is perfectly straight on to the vehicle, has good lighting and is not shot at any angle to the car. The photographer even crouched down a little to be on the proper level with the vehicle.

Bad Photos

These two photos are not helpful in any way to design decals. The angles and the perspective of these vehicles in the photos provides no basis to design decals.

Good Photo

This photo is helpful to design the star. A closer image of the seal could be necessary. The photo is straight on, level and good to design from.

Bad Photo

A photo like this is not helpful to design decals. The photo is from above, off angle and does not provide any basis to show the star in its true form.

DIGITAL IMAGES OF BADGES, PATCHES, SEALS, ETC. ARE ALWAYS HELPFUL.

A Google search or look through a department Facebook page can usually result in a few options of the images used on vehicles or similar graphics. Here's an example from a simple Google Image search for "Hamilton County Sheriff Indiana".
